Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine an Urban Educators Cohort Program (UCEP) at a research one university in the Midwestern United States. The goal of the UECP is to prepare teachers by helping students gain the knowledge and skills they will need to teach in communities where resources and services are most limited. The research one university’s international reputation of excellence for training teachers suggests that we expect this model to be a leader in training teachers for specific assignments, such as high-poverty, urban schools. To this end, a case study of this university’s Urban Educators Cohort Program addresses the level of preparedness graduates feel teaching in high-poverty, urban schools post graduation.
