Listening and Experience: From Traditional and Progressive Education to Experiential Learning

Sat, April 5, 8:15 to 9:45am, Convention Center, Floor: 100 Level, 115B

Abstract

This paper aims first to evaluate prevailing models of experiential education using Dewey’s criteria of educative experience. As Dewey’s critique of traditional education emphasized its domination by teacher talk and passive student listening, the paper then uses the method of philosophical analysis to identify types of active listening and then locate opportunities for different types of active learner listening in experiential education.
