What if one of the outcomes of the teaching of teachers is the ongoing production of whiteness? This paper uses Foucault’s practice of genealogy to explore how an historical moment of pre-service teacher education in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, in 1914, produced teachers as racialized subjects. This analysis outlines how overt discourses of race and discourses of race/nation and race/culture work together to produce teachers racialized as white.
