We implement a consequences framework that explores how and to what extent principal evaluation data from a multi-source rating scale are used for enhancing leadership quality and improving organizational performance. We ask: To what extent does a multi-source principal evaluation influence school improvement efforts, principal professional development, relationships and culture, and personnel decisions? Do principals and teachers perceive the consequences differently? And, to what extent do actual evaluation results influence the levels of such consequences? The results suggest that it will be important to work with principals to help them receive, understand, and utilize evaluation feedback. The paper also underscores the limited use of principal evaluation data in the sampled districts for personnel decisions and accountability purposes.
