The development of a systematic approach to promote young talents in science should be one of the main goals of science education. Therefore, we developed the Individual Concept about Natural Sciences (ICoN) which is supposed to characterize students with respect to their beliefs about scientists, their interest in science and their scientific knowledge. For the development of our instruments concerning students’ beliefs and interests, we conducted several studies. Furthermore, a test which measures the students’ knowledge is in the development stage. First results of this test will be available at the conference. Based on the results, we intend to identify different profiles among young talents in science. These profiles will form the basis for the development of specific enrichment measures.
