This paper describes the Holistic Student Assessment (HSA), a method for assessing the social and behavioral development of children and adolescents through the use of self-report ratings by children and adolescents. The objective of the present study is to build from prior work on the HSA and show how the tool can be used to identify students who may benefit from support services. Three research questions guide this work. (1) What are the psychometric properties of the Holistic Student Assessment (HSA)? (2) How can the HSA tool be used to identify students who show different support needs based on patterns of strengths and struggles? (3) How does the HSA relate to school outcomes (e.g., grades, standardized test scores, attendance)?
