Using Matrix Design in a Performance Support System to Promote Comprehension and Decision Making

Sat, April 5, 8:15 to 9:45am, Marriott, Floor: Fifth Level, Grand Ballroom L

Abstract

Adopting technology-supported performance systems for on-the-job learning and training is important in a networked economy. This study was to examine a Performance Support System (PSS) designed to support educators in the development of appropriate and effective technology integration strategies for learning and training events. Fifteen educators and instructional technologists were invited to evaluate the system’s readiness as well as to identify potential practical constraints that may hinder its use in a real-world setting. Findings from a perception survey and focus group interviews confirm the beneficial effects of the unified interface on navigation and orientation of content materials. The matrix format also serves as a comparative organizer and an expository organizer which provides scaffolding during user’s decision-making process.
