Putting Technological, Pedagogical, and Content Knowledge (TPACK) in Action: An Integrated TPACK Learning by Design Approach

Abstract

Despite the surge in research and emphasis on TPACK, there remain few studies that investigated how this complex knowledge is developed within the “learning by design” contexts. To respond to the research questions: "How does TPACK develop with an integrated TPACK-LBD approach? and “How multiple sources of data contribute to the assessment of TPACK development?”, we conducted a multiple case study. The integrated TPACK LBD approach included four interconnected modules that were implemented in a graduate course: 1) The TPACK Technology demonstrations, 2) The TPACK wikibooks chapter, 3) The TPACK Game, and 4) The TPACK Workshop. The analysis of multiple data sources revealed the critical pathways for TPACK development and the contribution of different sources to understanding of TPACK progression.
