Students’ Video Representations of the Use of Technology in Education

Sun, April 6, 8:15 to 9:45am, Convention Center, Floor: 200 Level, Hall E

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to understand how education students envision the use of technology in classrooms. Students enrolled in an undergraduate course “Teaching with New Technologies” at the University of Arizona worked in assigned groups to create short (3 minute) videos on using technology in education, which they then posted to YouTube.com. These videos provide insight into how these undergraduates considered incorporating technology into the classroom, and what differences exist between students over time. Findings can provide educators with baseline knowledge of how “digital natives” see the potential for integrating technology in the classroom, ultimately developing more relevant curriculum to introduce technology to tomorrow’s teachers
