Examining the Nexus: Deconstructing Western Research and Its Implications for Indigenous Educators

Abstract

Five indigenous teachers and scholars share their stories of deconstructing western research methods in an online introductory research course. We identify the importance of an emerging consciousness, research as social justice, and the personal nature of research. In addition, we identify ways that this process has influenced our work as teachers and scholars. This paper will provide an opportunity for other teachers and scholars from tribal and other minority communities to examine the nexus that we sit in and identify ways to navigate the multiple worlds.
