Abstract

This proposal explores how twelve health professionals used learning theories and instructional models to create ehealth and mhealth education interventions. The findings of this qualitative study revealed three themes: (1) connections to behaviorist approaches to learning, (2) connections to cognitivist approaches to learning, and (3) connections to constructivist approaches to learning. The findings suggest implications for practice such as the design of an instructional design guidebook for health professionals, the establishment of a community of practice and of a repository of health education learning objects. As for further research, the findings suggest investigating the heuristic approach of health professionals in addition to studying the impact of the variability of their instructional design on the quality and effectiveness of the interventions.
