Teachers Moving Forward on Their Self-Cultural Awareness Spectrum: Museums and Diverse Children’s Literature

Abstract

This purpose of this research is to explore how undergraduate and graduate students’ participation in a Multicultural Children's Literature course in conjunction with Museum visits influences participants cultural awareness and teaching pedagogy. This study employs the use of the following quantitative and quantitative data sources to understand the students’ lived experiences: interviews with students, response to a pre-and post-teaching case, classroom observation notes, students’ written reflections and responses to the Cultural Diversity Awareness Inventory. Initial findings are discussed.
