This literature review explores a decade of research (2003-2013) about race and Critical Race Theory (CRT) within social studies. We begin in 2003 because Ladson-Billings’ (2003a) edited volume on CRT and the social studies served as a watershed for the field in its interrogation of race. Utilizing the tenets of CRT as identified by Solórzano and Yosso (2002), our review of literature included social studies related scholarly journal articles, book chapters, and books. Our intent is to assess the progress of the field with respect to race and CRT and to suggest further inquiry to social studies researchers interested in continuing to develop this subfield.
