Programmatic Models and Applications for Internationalization in Teacher Education

Sun, April 6, 4:05 to 5:35pm, Convention Center, Floor: 200 Level, Hall E

Abstract

This paper examines three educational programs to create an argument that interculturalization has moved beyond an application of multicultural education theory in education coursework to larger programmatic elements within teacher education. Interculturalization draws upon larger theoretical frameworks, an intersection of multiple theories of diversity and cross-cultural communication collaboration.

The paper’s conceptual framework includes a range of diverse literatures that can be used to understand the trend toward interculturalization in teacher education. This paper then examines current programmatic examples currently used across both pre-service, in-service, and educational leadership in teacher education to conclude with an analysis of current endeavors. The paper addresses both challenges and benefits of interculturalization that can be applied to teacher education programs.
