The number of families struggling to afford housing has grown rapidly throughout the United States. Despite the widespread urgency of this issue, there is a lack of general coherence in the research about how affordable housing policy and programs affect students’ education opportunity. This conceptual paper addresses the noteworthy gap in the education and public policy fields by: 1) identifying connections between low-income housing conditions and student outcomes; 2) examining how Community Development Corporations present particularly robust spaces for cultivating increased educational opportunities; and 3) highlighting several implications for researchers, educational leaders, and policymakers.
