Listening to What Second Language Teachers Say About Communicative Language Teaching

Mon, April 7, 8:15 to 9:45am, Convention Center, Floor: 100 Level, 105B

Abstract

The study explores second language (L2) teachers’ perceptions of Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) and how they adopt the approach in their teaching practices. The results of this study revealed that the majority of the participants did not understand what CLT meant. However, the findings indicated that some teachers advocate solely for CLT while other teachers did not agree that using CLT alone is effective due to personal experiences as learners. The study suggests that although research and theories have a great impact on teacher education, instructors’ personal learning and teaching experience cannot be ignored. Implications and recommendations for L2 teacher education are discussed.
