In this study, we explore identity threat in Latino students participating in a college and STEM mentoring program. Quantitative and qualitative survey data were collected from 64 students from two middle schools and 48 students at one high school. Students were asked how likely they thought it was for people who shared their ethnic background to get a job in this country and to become a scientist. After a year in the mentoring program, Latino students showed an increased prevalence of identity threat at one middle school and at the high school, and a large proportion of survey responses demonstrated stereotype and stigma consciousness.
