High stake testing research often focused on the impact of the tests. Limited research has focused on the test taker’s perception of high stake testing. Furthermore, the limited research often focused on the perception of impact of high stake testing (Klinger & Luce-Kapler, 2007; Scott, 2007; Smyth & Banks, 2012; Triplett & Barksdale, 2005). The current study aims to expand the literature by arguing the definition of “stake” is often overlooked and perception of stake of testing can differ across test takers. A theoretical framework to conceptualize the test taker’s perception of test’s stake is proposed and a corresponding assessment tool measuring the construct is developed and validated. Validation process is presented and implications of current work are discussed.
