An Examination of Students’ Undermatching in the College Choice Process

Abstract

This paper explores factors that impact high-achieving, low-income students enrolling at less selective institutions for which they are qualified known as undermatching. Using latent class analysis (LCA) and data from the Educational Longitudinal Study, it examines the effect sources of college information and school characteristics have on students’ college choice.
