Using School-Based Research to Bridge Policy and Practice

Abstract

In the wake of a series of violent incidences in our schools and community, the public turned to the school board for answers. The district responded by creating Project Bridge. Project Bridge formed the bases for this five year school-based study that focused on identifying individual school needs and sharing the research findings with district staff, school board members, and community agency personnel. Stakeholders used the research data from 72 middle schools and 29 high schools to develop innovative practices and create policies that would improve the quality of life for students and families. This presentation reports the findings from the research that informed policy and created new practices for our schools, for our district, and ultimately for our community.
