Assembling short test forms is a practical task in testing programs as which often needs to publish test preparation materials to help test takers prepare the test. A short practice test form, even though it does not have the same number of test items as the full-length test, should capture the essential test statistical characteristics and content coverage. Instance selection methods are proposed for automatically assembling short test form from a full-length reference test form. By employing an instance selection method, a virtual test form, which is a composition of the desired item characteristics, is constructed. Parallel short forms can then be assembled simultaneously through nearest neighbor queries based on the specification of the virtual test form.
