Abstract

This is a follow-up to a 2013 AERA paper presentation detailing the creation and pilot psychometrics of the Positive Behavior Rating Scale (PBRS), a socio-emotional assessment designed for social-emotional progress monitoring in an early education setting. The purpose of the current presentation is to present further validation of this tool, through factor analysis and reliability and validity information using a full year of implementation data. Factor analysis indicates that this measure of socio-emotional development is made up of two distinct factors: Behavioral Regulation and Social Awareness. Findings from this study resulted in the Public Charter School Board’s approval for use of the PBRS as an official socio-emotional assessment in all public charter schools across the District of Columbia.
