Pittsburgh Public Schools (PPS) has been at the forefront of teacher evaluation reform in recent years by adopting a new evaluation system that incorporates multiple measures of teaching effectiveness, including classroom observations, value-added measures (VAM), and student surveys. This study analyzes teacher survey data from the first two years of implementation to examine the extent to which PPS teachers support the new evaluation system and perceived effects on levels of collaboration, motivation, and working conditions. Preliminary results indicate that teachers hold mixed views on the evaluation system overall, with more support for the observation component and less support for the use of VAM and student surveys. Limited changes were reported in the areas of collaboration, motivation, working conditions.
