Region-wide efforts through the Student Futures Project in Central Texas to improve postsecondary access and persistence involve a coalition of partners, including twelve local school districts, the University of Texas and the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce. This paper stems from stakeholder questions about the role of coursework, counselor interactions, extracurricular activities and college preparation activities engaged in during the junior and senior year in high school on transitions to college. Many of the activities related to college enrollment take place within this time period. Researchers used multiple quantitative methods to examine postsecondary transitions using data for 2010 high school graduates to estimate the effects of these coursework decisions and activities on initial college enrollment and one-year college persistence.
