Abstract

This self-study explores a two year period in an instructor’s academic life as a member/chair of the language arts/literacy team seeking to bring coherence and consistency to the expectations in a course outline document. As the development of the document progressed, an emerging component was my own awareness of my concern about the students’ perspective and understanding of the document. As a self-study, I investigated my role as member/chair within the collaborative group as they negotiated integrating documents from various stakeholders to create a cohesive course document for their students. As well, I explored how I could engage students in using the document for reflection on practice and learning.
