Evaluating the Psychometric Properties of the Behavioral and Emotional Screening System Student Form Using a High-Achieving Student Sample

Sun, April 6, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Convention Center, Floor: Terrace Level, Terrace IV

Abstract

This study investigated how well the BASC–2 Behavioral and Emotional Screening System (BESS) Student Form (Kamphaus & Reynolds, 2011) performed psychometrically for high-achieving high school students in International Baccalaureate (IB) programs. It was a follow-up to Dowdy et al.’s study (2007), which evaluated the underlying factor structure of the BESS Student Form in two norming samples and an independent sample from California. The current study utilized confirmatory factor analysis and measurement invariance tests to investigate model fit for all students and for boys and girls. Results indicated adequate fit of the four-factor structure (Personal Adjustment, Inattention/Hyperactivity, Internalizing, School Problems) for H.S. students in IB programs.
