Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine parents’ awareness, perception, and support of their state’s alternate assessment. This study utilizes the online survey approach to collect information from parents across states. Parents whose children with significant cognitive disabilities (SCD) participated in their states alternate assessment during the most recent school year have been targeted for this study. The survey was pilot tested through an alternative think-aloud method. The formal data collection has two stopping points, at six months and one-year. Factors such as geographical region, ethnicity, and child’s disability will be investigated to better understand their relationship to the parents’ opinions.
