Teachers’ Perceptions on Grassroots Community Schools’ Success

Abstract

In this paper I discuss how schooling is in fact a global phenomenon and report on teachers’ perceptions of the meaning of effective schooling while analyzing how globalization affects grassroots community schools' success. Poverty and illiteracy are global issues. In many areas of the world, community schools have been set up to address these issues. Four key principles unite community schools in purpose: perpetuating community values, meeting basic and long term community needs, and allowing the involvement of the community in the planning of programs and goals of community development (Rodriguez, 2012). Findings are based on interviews and observations from 2 rural community teachers and 4 students whose responses were analyzed through conversations with 6 parents of the community.
