Engendering Mobility: Transnational Faculty in Comparative Perspective

Sat, April 5, 2:45 to 4:15pm, Marriott, Floor: Fourth Level, 408

Abstract

International faculty mobility has been associated with increased research performance and career progression, however studies have shown that female researchers are less likely to benefit from or participate in international mobility programs due to family care responsibilities and compromises related to dual-career partnerships. We focus on the leading electronic portals affiliated with the European Commission’s EURAXESS Links from the non-EU countries of Norway, Australia and Canada, where there is a high degree of scientific mobility and linkages with the EU. We consider these informational portals as discursive mechanisms that reflect and extend local academic norms regarding academic life into transnational educational spaces, with implications for the further gendering of academic labor and mobility.
