Abstract

This presentation describes a three year design research project looking at the creation and implementation of a web-based system for students reading, writing and responding to books created by other students. By analyzing a large corpus of student created books, student book reviews as well as survey and interview data, this presentation will highlight the affordances and challenges of the transformative nature of educational technology in early literacy development and discuss the ways in which educational technology and student authorship can address issues of access to quality early reading materials (Kervin & Mantei, 2009).
