Sun, April 6, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Convention Center, Floor: 200 Level, Hall E

Abstract

Using the Third International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) 2011 student data, this study examined the effects of social contexts (i.e., family related factors, school related factors) and students’ perceptions of math (i.e., attitudes toward math, self-perception of math, & perceived value of math) on math achievement in 4th and 8th grade students in Singapore and USA. Using Structural Equation Modeling – Path Analysis (PA), we examined direct, indirect, and total effects of social contexts and students’ perceptions of math on math achievement across grades and countries.
