While calibration has been well studied, studies of calibration have only investigated cued and free recall. This study investigated individuals’ confidence in their strategy use and calibration of their higher-order thinking (i.e., summarizing, identifying an argument, and evaluation) while reading text passages about a reading and history topic. Undergraduates completed measures of prior knowledge, interest, confidence in strategies used, completed reading outcomes, and rated their confidence in answering the outcome questions. Differences were found in confidence ratings for the history passage but not the reading passage. Participants in this sample were not well-calibrated for these higher-order thinking outcomes and prior knowledge and interest were only found to be related to confidence for a few of the items.
