The Development, and Engagement, of Social Resources for Sharing and Creating Knowledge About Practice

Abstract

The current project examines how a teacher-researcher design effort creates knowledge about teaching and learning. This analysis is related to an ongoing initiative that engages teachers and university researchers in collaborative design groups called work circles (Shrader et al., 2001). While participating in a work circle, researchers and practitioners collaborate to create and test a design that addresses a local problem of practice (Shrader et al., 2001). In the case of this work circle project, we have a dual focus on both teacher and student learning. This discussion will provide insights as to the participants’ process of learning, how they contributed to a shared design, as well as how the local context interacts with this particular activity structure.
