We present initial findings and shares the lessons learned from the design, implementation, and evaluation of a system for monitoring school violence and school climate in Chile. The monitoring system takes on a social-ecological conceptual framework, and seeks to empower school communities through the strengthening of evidence-based decision making processes. We present the Chilean national context that justifies such a monitoring system but also frames the possibilities of integrating research, policy, and practice. Next, we present the conceptual framework and its antecedents in Israel and California, together with its design as it is being implemented in Chile through a pilot study in one city. We also present preliminary findings in terms of the psychometric properties of the measurement subsystem.
