Performing an Equity Audit to Identify Inequities Within Urban Schools

Abstract

An Equity Audit is a tool that teachers, administrators or other school based personnel can use to examine the structural, normative, and political processes of a school and identify inequities. If school reform, particularly in the urban context, is going to positively impact the lives of students, then school leaders need an effective way to examine the inequities on their school campus. An Equity Analysis is that tool. By using an Equity Analysis to peer into school inequities, then school leaders can begin to make strategic, more targeted reform that will hugely impact the academic outcomes of the students.
