Abstract

In this year-long, ethnographic study of a second grade classroom, we provide an account of how one exemplary teacher, Mae Graham, cultivated deep learning within a literacy workshop. Drawing upon perspectives of deep learning, engagement, multiliteracies, we addressed the following question: How does an exemplary elementary school teacher cultivate deep learning within skills-based language arts instruction?
