In this presentation, we will share the original IES-funded longitudinal randomized control trial (RCT) study, Project English Language and Literacy Acquisition (ELLA), upon which the validation (ELLA-V) was funded at $15,000,000 by i3 (Investing in Innovation), U.S Department of Education. In ELLA, we sought to determine the impact of a 4-year English instructional innovation on English language learners’ (ELL) English language development in oracy and reading comprehension. The ELLA model will be shared with specific intervention components at each grade level (K-3), followed by qualitative and quantitative findings obtained from RCT in ELLA. We will then present an overview of the rationale and design of Project ELLA-V in the first year of implementation beginning Fall, 2013.
