Train the Trainer Version 2.0: Following an Innovative Professional Development Model Implemented Through a School Improvement Grant

Abstract

The Train the Trainer model of professional development is in use throughout the U.S. to prepare the country’s teaching force to implement the Common Core State Standards and the assessments developed by Smarter Balance Assessment Consortia and Partnership for the Assessment for Readiness of College and Career. The Train the Trainer model has often been selected for its cost effectiveness and efficiency in training large numbers of educators. The Train the Trainer model is used extensively and in many professions, however there have been challenges with the mode. This mixed methods action research study followed the implementation of a hybrid Train the Trainer Professional Development Series informed by the stakeholders and led by Dr. Margaret Heritage, UCLA CRESST.
