Mon, April 7, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Convention Center, Floor: 100 Level, 120B

Abstract

This study reexamines the role of the school environment in teachers’ decisions to leave their jobs. A social-ecological model was used to define the school environment with teacher background, school context variables, and school environment variables. Data from the National Center for Education Statistics’ 2007-8 School and Staffing Survey and 2008-9 Teacher Follow-up Survey was used. Data analysis included an exploratory factor analysis and a multi-level logistic regression. Level one was identified as the teacher while level two was identified as the school. Results are currently pending. Implications and connections to teacher education are discussed.
