Deaf Children’s Psychology of the Mind

Abstract

The purpose of the current study is to examine theory of mind (ToM) development among preschool-age deaf children. While the majority of studies use false belief tasks, the current study makes use of a developmental sequence of ToM understandings. This scale measures concepts that develop before false belief, and has only been with deaf school-age children. We pose to extend it to younger preschool-age children, which is the age hearing children develop a ToM.
