The trajectory of statistical anxiety is examined longitudinally through hierarchical linear modeling in three introductory graduate courses: statistical methods, introduction to research, and educational psychology. The student anxiety followed a decreasing pattern in the statistical methods course while the students enrolled in the other two courses experiences increasing anxiety over time. Based on the observed trend and past research we discuss the importance of statistical methods courses in graduate education in the field of social sciences and possible long term implications for graduate education curricula.
