There is a growing need to produce more STEM graduates particularly from underrepresented racial/ethnic minority (URM) groups. Therefore, more research is needed to better understand the academic and social experiences of African American (AA) and Latino (LA) male STEM students who attend predominantly White institutions (PWIs). The present qualitative study examines student perceptions of academic self-efficacy or confidence and resilience. Findings from this study have implications for increasing academic success of URMs in terms of good grades, timely progress through major, and belonging.
