Participation in intercollegiate athletics presents an opportunity for student-athletes at predominantly White institutions (PWIs) to engage in cross-racial interaction, but the conditions for positive outcomes may not always be ideal. With that in mind, this paper explores the cross-racial interactions of Division I student-athletes attending PWIs of higher education through a campus racial climate framework. This understanding will facilitate the cultivation of institutional practices better aimed at enhancing the conditions necessary to foster quality intergroup interactions for student-athletes. Practical implications for student affairs professionals, coaches, and others who are committed to improving the interactions of student-athletes across racial groups are discussed.
