Online education is a rapidly growing field. Over the past couple decades its expansion began with the emergence of distance education. Today, online education encompasses many areas including completely online learning and blended learning. In order to aggregate the findings from the literature related to K-12 online learning, this meta-analysis reviews 24 studies. Analysis of the results indicated a small yet significant positive finding in favor of blended instruction when compared to traditional instruction, a result moderated by many contextual and methodological features. However, when discussing completely online learning, this meta-analysis found limited research. As such, policy makers and stakeholders within K-12 online education should approach large scale implication of completely online learning with caution.
