Fulbright-Hays Group Projects Abroad: The Long-Term Impact of an International Study Tour for K-12 Teachers

Abstract

This research builds on the conference theme of “The Power of Educational Research for Innovation in Practice and Policy,” by exploring how a federally funded, international study tour to Southeast Asia impacted the personal and professional development of a group of K-12 public school teachers some seven years after its conclusion. participants to experience what it feels like to be perceived as “the other” in ways that facilitated the development of cultural sensitivity and empathy towards culturally diverse students and their families living in the United States.
