Abstract

Law-Related Education in Juvenile Justice Settings Project aimed at improving law-related education (LRE) in schools and juvenile justice system in order to increase resiliency and reduce recidivism in students and young offenders. State-specific LRE curricula were developed for four types of settings: regular school environment, state facilities, juvenile detention facilities, and learning and life skills centers. Four models for LRE delivery were developed, each demonstrated at a specific site. Special features included: (1) making juvenile justice LRE curricula accessible to the growing numbers of limited English-speaking youth, (2) introducing the benefits of authentic assessment through LRE to the youth in schools and juvenile justice settings, and (3) implementing LRE with a special focus on successful reintegration into society.
