Abstract

The presence of Catholic urban education in American is decreasing. Schools are closing and moving to the suburbs. The reasons for this diminishing role will be explored along with the possible Catholic social teaching implications. This will be a qualitative study consisting of up to fifteen interviews with Catholic secondary educational leaders exploring the aforementioned questions along with garnering feedback on the Cristo Rey School model as a possible way forward for Catholic urban education. The interview data will be analyzed looking at issues of hegemony and critical pedagogy in determining the educational purpose of Catholic Urban education along with the justice implications.
