Determinants of STEM Major Choice: A Comparison Between Community Colleges and Four-Year Institutions

Sun, April 6, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Marriott, Floor: Fifth Level, Grand Ballroom J

Abstract

This study intends to understand STEM major choice among students who attend community college students and 4-year institution students as their first postsecondary institutions. By using Education Longitudinal Study (ELS), we examine how self-efficacy, academic performance, leaning experiences, interest, and environmental support are related to the choice of STEM major, and whether these relationships may vary by gender and race/ethnicity.
