While there is research on the factors that impact academic achievement (Maurizi, Grogan-Kaylor, Granillo, & Delva, 2013; Sieben & De Graaf, 2003), much of this research has focused on children and adolescents (Brown & Iyengar, 2008; Giordano, Phelps, Manning, & Longmore, 2008; Joe & Davis, 2009; Schaller, Rocha, & Barshinger, 2006; Simons-Morton & Chen, 2009). The goal of this study was to further understand what predicts academic achievement in college students. Results revealed that drug use at school or before coming to school negatively predicted GPA. The data examined suggested that students who lived in larger households and engaged in greater numbers of sexual behaviors had higher GPAs.
