Abstract

The purpose of the paper is to examine the current school setting in providing ELL students the learning strategies and opportunities appropriate for improving their academic standing by the implementation of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)in a secondary school setting. An explanatory sequential mixed methods design provided information as to the key PLCs constructs that appear to predict student success under the introduction of a team teaching and learning model. Of the five representative variables of the model, Academic Literacy appear to predict well on both math and reading components of a state-mandated test. Similar evidence was heard and extracted from the structured interviews of students and teachers.
